Lanterns launch in Beirut in memory of port blast victims

Sharjah24 – AFP: Lebanese launch lanterns in Beirut's Gemmayzeh neighbourhood during the lighting of a Christmas tree, in memory of the victims of the devastating August explosion at the Port of Beirut.
Firefighters stand in front of the Christmas tree created by Lebanese artist Hayat Nazer and decorated with uniforms of firefighters and rescue workers as a way to pay tribute to those who died in the blast.

Commenting on this, Hiba Dandachli, organiser of the lanterns event said, "I think that today we are not celebrating. We've slightly returned life to the area, but that does not mean that we have become accustomed to or acclimated to this situation or accepted it. But in this time, it's good if we re-draw smiles on the faces of people, especially in this area that was greatly affected by the explosion."
