Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Women’s Sports (SWS) has announced that registration for the 3×3 Basketball Championship is now open. Held under the patronage of Her Highness, Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of SWS, the championship will take place on June 29, 2019, at the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club.
New categories have been included for women and juniors for the very first time in this year’s edition.

The 3x3 championship is one of the key sporting events that provides coaches and players with opportunities to evaluate and improve individual skills. Each team consists of three or four players. Each club can participate with two teams of four players each; three players and one substitute. All teams can have one professional non-Arab player. The games are played on a half-court with one hoop. The game consists of a single period of 10 minutes with sudden death at 21 points, where the match ends with the winner being the first team to score 21 points without the need to finish the 10-minute original time.

Through this championship, the SWS seeks to foster a culture of sports and raise awareness about the importance of physical exercise. It strives to create a stimulating sporting environment that contributes to the development of women’s sports and highlight the role Emirati sportswomen. The event is open to all categories and ages, with Group A for athletes aged 12 - 16 and Group B for athletes aged +16 years.

The SWS urged the clubs and teams wishing to compete in the championship to call 065067838 for more information.

Established in November 2016, under an Emiri decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, SWS aims to empower national women athletes and develop human capital in the field of women's sports. It also seeks to create a talented generation of women leaders in sports, encourage women's participation in different sports, foster a culture of sports and provide a stimulating environment that contributes to advancing women's sports.
