Sharjah 24: American photographer and educator, J Tomas Lopez lives and works in Miami, Florida. Lopez is Professor and Chair of the Department of Art and Art History and the Head of Electronic Media at the University of Miami. His work and life is a balance between thematic explorations of visual semiotics.
In his statement to “Sharjah 24”, on the sidelines of his participation in the fourth edition of the International Photography Festival being organised by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau at Expo Centre Sharjah, Lopez said that he is participating with a portrait series about images of artists, photographers and poets who were impactful in the past 50 years.

“The portrait is the most important and viable for photographic journalis,” he said.

He added that he has travelled to several countries documenting the riders on the subways of London, Rome, Paris, Madrid and New York and his most recent project of studio portraits in the style of 19th-century artists.
