Sharjah 24: The 7th International Conference on Arab Women in Computing ( Arab WIC) took place Wednesday in connection with the Second Forum for Women in Research (WIR) under the theme "Quwa: Empowering Women in Research and Innovation," which will take place Thursday, August 26 and runs until 28, 2021.
The purpose of Arab WIC is to help women in computing achieve their career goals by providing support, inspiration, engagement, collaboration, and offering insights and enhancing woman’s position.

“The University of Sharjah is very delighted and pleased to launch the seventh International Conference for Arab Women in Computing on Wednesday and the forum for Women in Research on Thursday, as the two events coincide with the Emirati woman day,” said Dr. Manar Abu Talib, Chair of Research Outreach Department at University of Sharjah. She wished every woman in the UAE, as well as those outside the country, a happy woman's day.

Abu Talib said that the first conference attracted 68 contributions from 15 countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Egypt, Morocco, Turkey, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Canada, the United States, France, Germany, and Norway.

She also mentioned that the conference will present 5 awards, for the best two papers in the faculty category, the best two papers in the student category, and the best poster.

She noted that the Women in Research Forum (WIR) is in its second edition this year, and that it will be available to the Arab world next year. The theme of the forum is "Quwa," which means "strong," and it reflects women's empowerment and research. The letter "Q" stands for qualified, "U" for unique, "W" for hard work, and "A" for ambition in the term "QUWA." The forum will have two categories: one will cover medical, pharmacy, dentistry, and health sciences, with five awards worth AED 10,000 each, and the other will cover engineering sciences and computing with related sectors, with ten awards worth AED10,000 each.
