Sharjah 24 – KUNA: The Jordanian government condemned Sunday the Israeli occupation authorities' decision to build an elevator linking parts of the Old City in the occupied East Al Quds with the Buraq Wall.
Jordan "rejects all Israeli occupation unilateral actions in the occupied East Al Quds at the Old City in the vicinity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque/ Al Haram Al Sharif, including this project that changes the nature of the Old City, its Arab identity and violates international law and decisions of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)," Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Dhaifullah Al Fayez said.
Israeli occupation, as an occupying power, Al-Fayez added, must abide by its obligations under international law, which constituted East Al Quds occupied lands since 1967 and the provisions of international law and international humanitarian law apply to it, and stop violating the identity of the Old City or changing its features.
He said Jordan would act in coordination with the Palestinians and the UNESCO to confront this step.
The elevator links the Jewish neighbourhood with the Buraq Wall, and passes under the holy sites in the occupied city.
