Sharjah24: Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), represented by the Emirati Goldsmiths Platform, has organised an official visit to China to explore the latest global developments in the gold and jewellery industry and to support the development of Emirati designers’ skills and creative capabilities.

The visit includes discussions and field visits to learn about advanced technologies and practices, identify opportunities for strategic cooperation, and promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise with specialised entities, manufacturers and industry professionals.

The SCCI delegation is led by Mona Al Suwaidi, Director of the Executive Office of the SCCI Chairman and the official responsible for the Emirati Goldsmiths Platform, accompanied by a group of Emirati designers and artisans.

During the visit, the delegation explores jewellery manufacturing processes and the various stages of end-to-end production, gaining insights into specialised professional disciplines throughout the industry.

The programme covers the tools and equipment used in design, goldsmithing, shaping, gemstone setting, finishing and inspection. The delegation also examines retail and product-display methods, as well as business links connecting jewellery designers and artisans with manufacturers and suppliers.

The programme includes visits to a gold museum and a jewellery manufacturing and trading hub, where the delegation explores the history and evolution of China’s gold industry and views a range of traditional and contemporary Chinese jewellery designs.

In Shenzhen, the delegation visits a gold and jewellery trade exhibition featuring companies, manufacturers, designers and suppliers of jewellery-making equipment, gemstones and production materials.

The exhibition offers insights into the sector’s latest technological solutions and innovations, including 3D design and printing, laser cutting and engraving, precision casting and forming, advanced polishing and finishing equipment, gold and gemstone testing technologies, gemstone-setting solutions, and specialised digital software for jewellery design.

The delegation also meets Her Excellency Mariam Alshamsi, the UAE Consul General in Guangzhou, to discuss the visit's objectives and its role in strengthening UAE-China cooperation.

The meeting explores opportunities to expand economic and commercial ties between the UAE and China in gold and jewellery, fragrances and creative crafts, and highlights the role of diplomatic missions in strengthening business engagement and institutional links between entities and companies in both countries.

Mona Al Suwaidi said the visit offers an opportunity to gain first-hand insights into the skills and expertise of Chinese craftspeople and specialists across the gold and jewellery value chain, including their roles at each stage of production.

She added that the delegation examines how traditional craftsmanship can be integrated with advanced technologies, highlighting the role of digital solutions and modern equipment in refining designs, improving manufacturing precision and productivity, and minimising waste.

Al Suwaidi noted that the outcomes of the visit will reinforce the Emirati Goldsmiths Platform’s approach to upskilling designers and craftspeople, adopting advanced design and manufacturing technologies, and developing new channels for cooperation and knowledge transfer.

She added that the initiative could also pave the way for joint training workshops with Chinese industry specialists.

As part of the broader programme, the delegation visits the Xuelei Fragrance Museum in Guangzhou, gaining insights into the history and development of China’s perfume industry, as well as its production processes and techniques for extracting fragrances and essential oils.

The delegation also explores natural ingredients used in perfume formulations, as well as traditional and advanced tools and technologies for extraction, blending and packaging.
