Sharjah 24 – AFP: The Israeli military resumed airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, accompanied by the first evacuation warning issued in weeks, after accusing Hezbollah of violating a ceasefire agreement.

Lebanese state media reported that the renewed strikes killed at least one person and injured 11 others.

Rome talks focus on withdrawal and Hezbollah disarmament

The escalation comes as Israeli and Lebanese officials are holding US-sponsored negotiations in Rome aimed at securing a phased Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon and advancing a framework agreement reached in June.

The agreement includes the gradual disarmament of Hezbollah, the deployment of the Lebanese army in designated “pilot zones,” and efforts to resolve outstanding border disputes.

Hezbollah has rejected direct negotiations with Israel, describing them as humiliating, and has refused calls to give up its weapons.

Evacuation order issued near Tyre

The latest military action followed an evacuation order for the southern Lebanese town of Mansouri, near Tyre.

Although a ceasefire implemented in June significantly reduced large-scale fighting, sporadic Israeli strikes, shelling, and demolitions have continued in areas near the southern border.
