According to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the Public Authority for Civil Aviation issued a statement asserting that these incidents constitute a severe breach of international civil aviation treaties and conventions. The authority emphasized that the actions pose a direct and critical threat to the safety of passengers, airline crews, airport staff, and vital aviation infrastructure.
The protest highlighted a recent attack targeting Terminal 1 last Wednesday, which resulted in fatalities, serious injuries, and extensive material damage, while forcing a temporary suspension of air traffic and flight disruptions at the nation’s primary airport.
Notably, the authority pointed out that this latest strike occurred just 48 hours after Terminal 1 had been reopened. Operations had only recently resumed following extensive repair and rehabilitation work necessitated by an earlier attack on February 28, underscoring the significant efforts Kuwait had undertaken to restore safe, normal operations.
In its communication to ICAO, Kuwait urged the international body to take immediate and decisive action to protect civil aviation facilities, halt further violations, and enforce accountability in strict accordance with international law and global aviation safety standards.
The Public Authority for Civil Aviation concluded by reaffirming Kuwait’s absolute right under international law to implement all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, protect its airspace, and guarantee the safety of its citizens, travelers, and civil aviation infrastructure.
