Sharjah 24 – QNA: Google has warned of a sharp increase in AI-powered cyberattacks, revealing that hackers are now using advanced language models to identify previously unknown software vulnerabilities and create malicious code at unprecedented speed.

AI increasingly automating cyberattacks

In a new security report, the company disclosed what it described as the first known instance of cybercriminals using artificial intelligence to uncover a zero-day vulnerability in a widely used open-source systems management platform. The attack was stopped before it could lead to large-scale exploitation.

Google’s Threat Analysis Group said the incident marks a significant shift in cyber warfare, noting that AI is no longer simply assisting hackers but is increasingly automating key stages of attacks, including vulnerability detection, malware development, and target analysis.

Security researchers added that evidence found within recent attack code strongly suggests AI involvement, underlining how machine learning is rapidly increasing both the sophistication and scale of cyber intrusions.

Calls for stronger real-time cyber defenses

The company cautioned that traditional human-led cybersecurity measures are becoming inadequate against rapidly evolving AI-driven threats, urging governments and organizations to adopt intelligent real-time defense systems before autonomous cyberattacks become widespread.
