Sharjah24-AFP: At least 17 people were killed on Thursday in Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese authorities. The attacks come amid rising tensions despite a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah that came into effect on 17 April following unprecedented direct talks between Israel and Lebanon.

Evacuation warnings and continued strikes

The Israeli army reportedly continued carrying out strikes in southern Lebanon and issued evacuation warnings for more than 20 villages. Despite the warnings, air raids were conducted on several areas, including villages mentioned in the evacuation notice.

Civilian casualties in multiple towns

According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, strikes on the towns of Jibsheet, Toul, and Harouf resulted in an initial toll of nine dead, including two children and five women, and 23 injured, among them eight children and seven women.

The Lebanese National News Agency reported that the strike on Jibsheet killed four members of the same family—parents and their two children.

Further deaths reported in Zibdin

Later, the Ministry of Health announced that six more people were killed in the town of Zibdin. The National News Agency said they were targeted by an Israeli drone strike using two guided missiles while they were gathered near the town’s cemetery.

Official condemnation of continued violations

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks, describing them as repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement, despite its continued formal status since April.
