Sharjah24 - WAM: In an exceptional step, Etihad Rail operated a passenger train as part of trial runs along the route linking Al Ghuwaifat station on the Saudi border with Al Faya station in Abu Dhabi. The measure supports the continuity of vital services and provides safe, reliable transport alternatives, guided by continuous risk assessment and evolving developments.

The move forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance preparedness and improve response efficiency in light of the current regional situation, in direct coordination with the Abu Dhabi Emergencies, Crises and Disasters Management Centre (ADCMC).

The connection between the two stations holds strategic importance, reinforcing geographical ties between the two countries and supporting the smooth movement to and from key ports. It facilitates travel for both citizens and residents and enables authorities to activate alternative routes in line with approved response plans.

Integrated operational measures and logistical security

Operating the route falls within a broader package of proactive and operational measures implemented through coordination between the Centre and relevant authorities. These measures aim to ensure role integration and strengthen logistical security in line with business continuity strategies and multi-scenario risk management frameworks.

Matar Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director-General of ADCMC, stressed that developing and ensuring transport readiness is a core component of the comprehensive response system. He noted that developments are managed under clear governance frameworks and integrated coordination mechanisms across vital sectors, enabling swift adaptation and optimal resource utilisation.

He added that the flexibility of the transport sector is essential to societal stability due to its direct link to the continuity of essential services. He affirmed that the Centre will continue round-the-clock monitoring and analysis of relevant indicators to reinforce Abu Dhabi’s preparedness and strengthen public confidence in the response framework.

Leadership directives and national transport resilience

Eng. Mohammed Al Shehhi, Chief Projects Officer at Etihad Rail, stated that operating passenger services between Al Ghuwaifat and Al Faya as part of trial runs reflects the readiness and flexibility of the UAE’s national railway network, designed to ensure the continuity of vital services under all circumstances. He noted that the initiative follows the directives of the UAE leadership to strengthen the national transport ecosystem and enhance its strategic role in supporting society, under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Rail.

He added that Etihad Rail is proud to support joint response efforts led by relevant authorities by providing safe, reliable and well-organised transport solutions at a time when maintaining the national transport ecosystem is critical. He affirmed that teams continue close coordination with government partners to sustain operations and deliver dependable transport services, enhancing traffic flow and strengthening national readiness.

Proactive institutional approach and infrastructure resilience

The operation of the route reflects a proactive institutional approach grounded in advance planning and the timely activation of alternative options when needed. It enhances infrastructure resilience and strengthens the emirate’s capacity to respond effectively to changing circumstances.

The step demonstrates that Abu Dhabi’s response framework extends beyond preventive measures and field coordination to include timely operational decisions that improve service efficiency and ensure smooth movement under various conditions.

It further illustrates how risk assessments are translated into practical solutions that support vital sectors, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s ability to manage developments efficiently, maintain service continuity and uphold infrastructure readiness.
