Roma close in on Napoli at top of serie A

Sharjah24: Roma continued their winning run in Serie A with a 2-0 home victory over Verona in the fifth round, temporarily joining Napoli at the top of the standings ahead of the champions’ clash with AC Milan.

Dovbyk and Soule seal the win

The capital side owed their victory to goals from Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk, who netted his first of the season in the 8th minute, and Argentine midfielder Matías Soulé, who doubled the lead in the 79th.

Gasperini reflects on player fatigue

Coach Gian Piero Gasperini, whose team faces French side Lille in the Europa League on Thursday, acknowledged the physical challenges his players faced. Speaking to DAZN, he said: “Several players struggled as it was the first time this season we played three games in a week, and not everyone fully recovered. Some weren’t at their best, and we suffered more than we should have.”

Verona’s struggles continue

Verona, managed by former player Paolo Zanetti, remain winless this season. Their tally is stuck at three points, leaving them in 16th place after five matches.
