Abdullah bin Zayed urges urgent end to Gaza

Sharjah24 - WAM: His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 80) in New York.

Focus on ending Gaza conflict

The meeting addressed the latest regional developments and international efforts to end the war in the Gaza Strip. Sheikh Abdullah stressed the urgent need to stop the bloodshed, establish a permanent and sustainable ceasefire, prevent further loss of life, and alleviate the tragic conditions facing civilians.

Support for hostage release and global action against extremism

The UAE’s top diplomat reaffirmed the country’s backing of international initiatives to secure the release of hostages and detainees. He also emphasised the importance of unified global action to confront extremism and terrorism in all its forms, while safeguarding civilian lives.

Humanitarian aid and civilian protection

Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, calling for the mobilisation of all possible efforts to guarantee the unimpeded and sustainable delivery of aid to those in need.

Commitment to peace and the two-state solution

The UAE reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting initiatives that aim to achieve a comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution. Sheikh Abdullah underlined that this approach would fulfil the aspirations of both Palestinians and Israelis, as well as contribute to regional security and stability.

Promoting tolerance and coexistence

He further stressed the importance of upholding values of tolerance, coexistence, and human fraternity to realise the shared hopes of regional peoples for prosperity, sustainable development, and lasting peace.

The meeting was attended by Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Minister of State, and Mohamed Mahmoud Al Khaja, UAE Ambassador to Israel.
