Sharjah 24 – AFP: Crystal Palace made history by winning their first FA Community Shield, defeating Premier League champions Liverpool 3-2 on penalties at Wembley Stadium. The match ended 2-2 in regular time, with no extra time played, in accordance with Community Shield rules.

Liverpool take the lead twice

Liverpool opened the scoring early through Hugo Ekitike in the 4th minute. Despite the fast start, Palace struck back in the 17th minute with a goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta. Liverpool regained the lead through Jeremie Frimpong in the 21st minute, but Ismaïla Sarr equalised again for Palace in the 77th.
