Sharjah 24 – WAM: Ghana has recorded 45 confirmed cases of monkeypox over the past month, making it the country's worst outbreak since 2022, according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

No reported deaths, but emergency response activated

Although no deaths have been reported, the GHS has activated regional emergency teams to boost surveillance, perform contact tracing, and support case management in the affected regions. Confirmed cases are being isolated, and additional resources have been deployed to strengthen the health system’s response capacity.

Lab testing confirms outbreak

Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoyirea, Director-General of the GHS, confirmed that the cases were verified through laboratory testing. He assured the public that efforts are ongoing to contain the spread.

Public urged to stay vigilant and practice hygiene

Prof. Akoyirea urged citizens to report symptoms early, avoid close contact with potentially infected individuals, and maintain good personal hygiene. He emphasized the need for immediate medical attention if symptoms of monkeypox appear.
