Sharjah 24: As part of its commitment to ensuring the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens and residents, the Health, Labour and Social Affairs Committee of Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC)—conducted a field visit to Burjeel Hospital in Sharjah. The visit was part of the committee’s regular field programme to monitor medical services across the Emirate and evaluate healthcare standards on the ground.

The visiting delegation was led by His Excellency Mohammed Saleh Al Ali, Chair of the Committee, and included Her Excellency Dr. Hind Saleh Al Hajri (Committee Rapporteur), Dr. Ruqayya Al Zaabi, Ahmed Humaidi Al Ketbi, and Issa Abdulrahim Al Zarouni. They were accompanied by Dr. Islam El Shiwi, Media Advisor to the Council, and Sumayya Mohammed Jassim, Committee Secretary.

The visit was held within the activities of the Council’s second ordinary session of the eleventh legislative term, and aligns with its wider goal of supporting integration between public and private healthcare institutions, while fostering strategic partnerships to deliver high-quality services.

Exploring healthcare capabilities and expansion plans

The delegation was received by Yahya Salah Kaid, Senior Operations Manager, and Dr. Mohamed Iraqi, Medical Director and Consultant in General and Laparoscopic Surgery.

His Excellency Mohammed Saleh Al Ali emphasised that the visit reflects the Council’s ongoing policy of direct engagement with healthcare facilities. He highlighted the importance of maintaining dialogue with various health providers to explore opportunities and challenges and to propose development plans aligned with Sharjah’s vision of comprehensive healthcare.

Discussions during the visit focused on several key issues in the healthcare sector. The hospital team presented their current expansion plans and highlighted advanced services such as paediatric and adult cardiac surgery, non-invasive stroke treatment within 50 minutes, as well as specialised care in oncology, orthopaedics, and endoscopy. They also noted active collaboration with charitable organisations to support humanitarian medical cases.

Enhancing quality, access and coordination

Committee members discussed a range of topics related to service quality, the rising demand for healthcare, and the need to expand geographical coverage, especially in new residential areas. They stressed the importance of coordinated efforts with the Sharjah Health Authority and private hospitals to achieve the highest standards of efficiency and readiness.

Members praised the fruitful cooperation between healthcare institutions and affirmed that such field visits play a vital role in shaping policies that support the medical sector and contribute to improving public health and overall quality of life in the Emirate.

First-hand tour of hospital facilities

During their tour of Burjeel Hospital, the committee members visited various departments including Emergency, Outpatient Clinics, Radiology, Operating Rooms, and Intensive Care Units. They also checked on a number of patients to assess the level of care provided.

The delegation expressed appreciation for the efforts of the medical and administrative staff, underlining the importance of expanding and enhancing services in line with the growing needs of Sharjah’s population.
