SSSD celebrates International Day of Action for Women's Health

Sharjah 24: Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) celebrated International Day of Action for Women's Health, which falls on Wednesday, May 28.

The department believes in the importance of women's health and its impact on all members of society. Therefore, the department is keen to provide the healthcare services needed by women and girls affiliated with its women's centres.

Services include the Women's Protection Centre, which seeks to ensure the protection of abused women in Sharjah, provide them with a decent life, raise awareness of their rights, and enable them to live independently and with dignity by providing them with shelter in a safe place that meets their needs for psychological protection and confronting their circumstances and problems to resume a better life while preserving the integrity of their families.

Women's Protection Centre also empowers women and girls who are victims of violence by providing specialized support, ensuring their safety through follow-up, empowering them to control their health through education and awareness, and ensuring successful reintegration into their families. During their time at the centre, they receive the best and most diverse services, including health and psychological services.

Mariam Ismail, Director of the Women's Protection Centre, says that the centre recognises the importance of women's health and empowerment, and is committed to supporting initiatives that enhance their health, education, and well-being. The Women's Protection Centre is working toward a brighter and healthier future for all women.

A Fundamental Right

Mariam Ismail added that access to comprehensive healthcare services is a fundamental human right. On International Women's Health Day, the centre renews the call to prioritise women's health in all aspects, especially physical and psychological. Therefore, the centre provides a comprehensive health programme under case management to monitor the health and psychological status of members. This programme includes therapeutic and nursing services provided by a nurse on a daily basis. The centre has a nursing room equipped with medical equipment to provide first aid, a medical bed, a thermometer, a scale to measure weight and vital signs, and the dispensing of necessary medications as prescribed by the attending physician. Medications are also provided from the pharmacy of the nursing home affiliated with the department or from external hospitals, and medication is administered and administered. Laboratory samples are also taken and delivered to the laboratory. This is in addition to supervising self-care services, scheduling medical appointments for patients, monitoring proper nutrition, and developing appropriate nutrition programmes for those who need it.

Case Diagnosis

Maryam Ismail follows up on the health services available at the centre, commenting that in addition to nursing, the centre provides members with medical services, which include a visit from a doctor once a week to examine and diagnose members, develop a treatment plan, and assess their condition.
