Paraguay President visits Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi

Sharjah 24 – WAM: President Santiago Peña of the Republic of Paraguay visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, accompanied by Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay; Dr Al Saghira Wabran Hamad Mubarak Al Ahbabi, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Paraguay; Carolin Konther Lopez, Ambassador of the Republic of Paraguay to the UAE; and the accompanying delegation.

Guided tour of the mosque

President Peña and his delegation were accompanied by Dr Yousef Al-Obaidli, Director-General of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre, during their tour of the mosque’s halls and exterior corridors.

Honouring Sheikh Zayed’s legacy

The visit began with a solemn stop at the mausoleum of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. President Peña and his delegation paid tribute to the UAE’s Founding Father and reflected on his enduring legacy of tolerance, coexistence, and peace.

Promoting cultural understanding

The delegation learned about the mosque’s message of cultural coexistence and tolerance, inspired by Sheikh Zayed’s values. They were also introduced to the Centre’s role in promoting Islamic culture and enhancing cross-cultural communication globally.

Architectural and artistic highlights

The tour included a briefing on the mosque’s history and its intricate architectural design. The delegation explored the mosque’s artistic elements and collections, showcasing a blend of diverse Islamic artistic and architectural traditions.

A message of cultural unity

President Peña expressed his appreciation, stating, “I am deeply honoured to participate and be here. It is a spiritual occasion for us, to build bridges between our cultures and peoples.”

A symbolic gift

At the conclusion of the visit, the President of Paraguay was presented with a copy of the book "Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque: Lights of Peace", a publication that captures the mosque’s architectural magnificence and features award-winning images from the “Spaces of Light” Award.
