Sharjah 24 – AFP: The Supreme Sports Council has announced that Barcelona players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor will be permitted to continue their tenure at the club until the end of the season. This decision comes after the league revoked their licenses at the end of 2024.

Decision in favour of Barcelona

On Thursday, the Supreme Sports Council issued a ruling favorable to La Liga leaders Barcelona, allowing Olmo and Victor to keep playing. The joint committee that previously revoked the players' licenses due to insufficient financial guarantees has been deemed incompetent by the Sports Authority.

Revocation considered null and void

The Sports Council declared the revocation of the licenses to be "null and void." This ruling enables Olmo, who was signed for approximately 60 million euros last summer, and young talent Pau Victor to participate normally with the Catalan club. Following this decision, La Liga announced its intention to appeal, stating that the ruling "does not comply with the law."

Background on player registration

The two Spanish players were provisionally registered at the beginning of the season due to an injury sustained by Danish player Andreas Christensen. They were initially excluded from the squad as Barcelona sought new revenue sources to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Financial challenges and club developments

Barcelona believed it had addressed its financial challenges when it announced the sale of a VIP box investment at Camp Nou for an estimated €100 million over 20 years to Qatari and Emirati companies. However, La Liga later stated that "no amount from the VIP box agreement was ultimately recorded in the profit and loss accounts," contrary to what was initially approved by the club and its auditor.

Provisional allowance to play

The Spanish Sports Authority, the nation's highest sports governing body, provisionally allowed both Olmo and Victor to resume playing for the Blaugrana last January, pending a final decision regarding their licenses.
