EU Parliament approves aid packages for Egypt and Jordan

The macro-financial assistance for Egypt was approved with 452 votes in favor, 182 against, and 40 abstentions. The loan for Jordan passed with 571 votes in favor, 59 against, and 46 abstentions.

Details of the aid

The EU’s proposal for Egypt, introduced on March 15, 2024, involves a total of €5 billion in financial support, including a €1 billion short-term loan already disbursed at the end of 2024, and €4 billion in regular loans to be provided in three installments.

The loan to Jordan aims to cover financing needs, support structural reforms, and assist in fiscal consolidation efforts.
