Sharjah 24 – Reuters: Polish striker Robert Lewandowski played a pivotal role in helping Barcelona extend their unbeaten streak to 20 matches across all competitions. The Catalan giants triumphed in the Catalan derby against their neighbors Girona, securing a 4-1 win on Sunday.

Barcelona regains lead over Real Madrid

With the victory, Barcelona regained a three-point lead over defending champions Real Madrid, who beat Leganes 3-2 on Saturday. Barcelona now holds 66 points, compared to Real Madrid’s 63 points, at the top of the standings.

The game began with Barcelona taking the lead through an own goal by Czech defender Ladislav Krejci (43rd minute). Girona responded quickly with a surprise equalizer from Dutchman Arnau Danjuma (53rd minute). However, Barcelona responded decisively in the final third, scoring three goals, including two from Lewandowski (61st and 77th minutes), and another from substitute Ferran Torres (86th minute).

Lewandowski’s two goals in the match increased his tally to 25 goals for the season, keeping him at the top of La Liga's scoring charts.
