Sharjah 24 – AFP: Osasuna has formally filed a complaint against Barcelona following its 3-0 defeat in a postponed La Liga match. The complaint objects to the participation of Barcelona defender Iñigo Martínez, citing violations of FIFA regulations.

Alleged violation of FIFA regulations

In their statement, Osasuna explained that Martínez’s participation in the match contravened Article 5 of Annex 1 of the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players. According to these regulations, a player who does not join their national team or leaves for medical reasons cannot play for their club within five days after the international break.

Martínez’s call-up and injury

Martínez was initially called up to the Spanish national team during the recent international break. However, due to a knee issue, he was replaced by Dean Huijsen, a younger player. As a result, Osasuna argues that Martínez was ineligible to participate in the match against them according to FIFA’s guidelines.

Outcome of the complaint

Despite the objection, the complaint is expected to have little chance of success, as noted by Spanish press.
