Sharjah 24 – AFP: On Saturday, a knife attack in eastern France resulted in one death and two police officers seriously injured during a demonstration. The attack occurred in Mulhouse, shortly before 4:00 pm, and was carried out by a 37-year-old suspect.

Police officers injured

In addition to the two seriously injured officers, three others sustained lighter injuries. The suspect, who is on France's terror prevention watchlist (FSPRT), is believed to have targeted the police during the demonstration. One officer suffered a carotid artery injury, while another was wounded in the thorax.

Suspect's background

The suspect, born in Algeria, has been under judicial supervision, house arrest, and an expulsion order from France. Authorities are investigating the incident as a potential terror attack.

Investigation and official response

The national anti-terror prosecutors unit (PNAT) has taken charge of the investigation. Mulhouse’s mayor, Michele Lutz, described the incident as a horrifying event, and Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau is expected to visit the scene later on Saturday.
