Sharjah24: Samuel Mbangula led Juventus to a 2-1 victory over Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of the playoff for the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League.
Juventus secured a valuable win against PSV, with the match heading toward a 1-1 draw until Belgian striker Samuel Mbangula scored the decisive goal just eight minutes before the end.
First half lead
The first half concluded with Juventus in the lead, thanks to an opening goal from American midfielder Weston McKennie in the 34th minute, following a pass from Federico Gatti.
PSV's equaliser
PSV equalized in the 56th minute through experienced Croatian forward Ivan Perišić, with the referee confirming the goal after consulting VAR.
Late winner
Just before the final whistle, Mbangula scored the winning goal with a right-footed shot, securing the victory for Juventus.
Looking ahead
The two teams will meet again in the return leg next Wednesday, with the aggregate winner advancing to the Round of 16. Juventus previously defeated PSV 3-1 in the group stage of this year's tournament.
