SLSDA and SM collaborate on labour housing standard development

The meeting focused on exploring methods to improve collaboration in the development of the Sharjah Labour Housing Standard, in line with the emirate’s vision to guarantee a dignified life for workers and promote sustainable development.

In the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qasimi highlighted the significance of the strategic partnership with Sharjah Municipality, commending its crucial contribution to improving the quality of life and delivering outstanding services that align with the aspirations of all segments of society.

He emphasised that the "Sharjah Labour Housing Standard" project signifies a significant advancement in the organisation and management of labour housing through a holistic and cohesive strategy.

The project, being the first of its kind in the Middle East, seeks to enhance housing standards and create a cohesive environment that guarantees the comfort and stability of workers in diverse job categories. This initiative further reinforces Sharjah’s status as a prime destination for living and working under innovative standards.

Al Tunaiji remarked that Sharjah has achieved considerable progress in creating an optimal and suitable environment to support various workforce categories and provide them with essential services.

The Sharjah Labour Housing Standard project underscores the emirate’s commitment to delivering suitable housing and outstanding facilities for these groups and recognising their vital contributions to the development journey. He observed that Sharjah Municipality is striving to establish appropriate conditions, housing, and services for workers while also improving collaboration and coordination with SLSDA to realise common visions and objectives, highlighting the significant interest in this segment of society.

Mr. Faisal Al Shamsi, director of the labour market standards and systems department at SLSDA, provided a comprehensive overview of the project’s latest developments, emphasising its components, recent updates, and anticipated implementation phases.

The presentation also covered the significant challenges confronting labour housing in the emirate and the regulatory solutions implemented within the project to tackle these issues, with the goal of enhancing the organisation of this essential sector.
