Sharjah24 - AFP: Universal and DreamWorks' superhero comedy "Dog Man," which is based on well-known children's books, maintained its top spot in North American theaters for a second consecutive weekend, with an estimated $13.7 million, according to industry observer Exhibitor Relations on Sunday.
Box Office overview
The animated movie "Dog Man," a spinoff from the best-selling "Captain Underpants" series, experienced a significant decline in ticket sales, dropping from its opening weekend total of $36 million. Despite this drop, the film has successfully recouped its estimated $40 million production cost.

Second Place: "Heart Eyes"
Taking second place for the weekend was the new Sony release "Heart Eyes," which earned $8.5 million. This slasher flick, released just before Valentine's Day, features a killer with a heart-shaped mask targeting couples during the romantic holiday. It stars Olivia Holt, Mason Gooding, and Jordan Brewster.

Third Place: "Love Hurts"
In third place, Universal's action film "Love Hurts" grossed $5.8 million. The film stars Ke Huy Quan, who won an Oscar for his role in "Everything Everywhere All at Once," playing a realtor with a violent past being hunted by his brother.

Fourth Place: "Mufasa: The Lion King"
Disney's animated feature "Mufasa: The Lion King" secured fourth place with earnings of $3.9 million. With global ticket sales reaching $670 million, analysts predict the film will surpass the $700 million mark worldwide.

Fifth Place: "Companion"
Rounding out the top five was "Companion," a sci-fi satire from Warner Bros. and New Line, which earned $3.02 million. The film stars Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher and entails a chaotic weekend getaway when friends discover one guest is a "companion robot."
