Ortagus emphasised that Hezbollah's era of "terrorising" the Lebanese people was over, stating that the group should not be part of the government. She met with President Joseph Aoun and expressed US concerns regarding Hezbollah's influence in Lebanon.
Hezbollah condemned Ortagus' remarks, calling them a blatant interference in Lebanon’s sovereignty. The group’s power has been significantly weakened by the conflict with Israel, and Lebanon's parliament has elected Aoun and Nawaf Salam for key government roles.
In response, Aoun distanced himself from Ortagus’ comments, clarifying that they represented her personal views. The Lebanese presidency stressed the need for Lebanon to move forward with necessary reforms, including resolving the ongoing Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
