Sharjah 24 – AFP: Syria said on Saturday the country's main airport in Damascus would resume international flights starting next week after such commercial trips were halted following last month's ouster of president Bashar al-Assad.

Reopening of Damascus Airport

"We will begin receiving international flights to and from Damascus International Airport starting Tuesday," state news agency SANA quoted Ashhad al-Salibi, head of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, as saying.

Airport rehabilitation efforts

Al-Salibi reassured both Arab and international airlines, stating that the rehabilitation of Damascus and Aleppo airports is underway with the assistance of their partners, ensuring they will be ready to welcome flights from around the world.

Ongoing air traffic

While international flights were suspended, international aid planes and foreign diplomatic delegations have continued to land in Syria. Domestic flights have already resumed operations.
