Sharjah 24 – AFP: Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama announced on Saturday that TikTok will be banned in the country for at least one year, starting in 2025.
During a meeting with teachers, parents, and psychologists in Tirana, Rama described TikTok as a "thug" in the neighborhood and pledged to remove it for a year. He also stated that the government would introduce programs to support student education and help parents monitor their children's activities.
The decision follows the tragic death of a 14-year-old student in a school-related fight that was sparked by a social media confrontation. This event led to a national debate about the impact of social networks on youth.
Rama criticized TikTok for its content, contrasting it with the platform's educational focus in China. He questioned why Albania should allow the platform, given its negative influence.
