Sharjah 24 – AFP: Militants in northern Syria's last opposition-held area launched a large-scale attack on the Syrian army on Wednesday, marking their first significant advance in years. According to sources from both the Syrian army and opposition groups, the assault targeted at least ten sites under the control of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces in northwestern Aleppo province.
The attack, led by an alliance of armed factions including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, is the first major offensive since March 2020, when a ceasefire agreement between Russia, which supports Assad, and Turkey, backing opposition groups, had halted major military confrontations in the region.
Military sources confirmed that the militants advanced within ten kilometers of Aleppo city and a few kilometers from the towns of Nubl and Zahraa.
