The plan encompasses 22 projects across Dubai's road network, benefiting over 6 million residents and supporting the city's comprehensive development goals.
During his visit to RTA’s headquarters, Sheikh Hamdan was welcomed by Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General of RTA, along with several senior officials. He reviewed a presentation showcasing the growth of public transport, which currently serves 2.2 million riders daily. The road network has expanded significantly, from 8,715 lane-kilometers in 2006 to 18,990 lane-kilometers today—a 117% increase. The development includes the growth of vehicle bridges, pedestrian pathways, and cycling tracks, which have seen remarkable increases in capacity and connectivity.
Sheikh Hamdan also received briefings on autonomous transport initiatives and the integration of artificial intelligence in traffic management. The RTA's plans include expanding the Dubai Tram network with a study on deploying trackless tram systems, which operate on virtual tracks and offer an eco-friendly alternative to traditional trams. The Dubai Tram, marking its 10th anniversary in November 2024, has achieved significant milestones, including serving 60 million passengers and maintaining a 99.9% punctuality rate.
Further discussions included the extension of dedicated bus and taxi lanes, which will enhance public transport efficiency and reduce congestion, projected to yield economic benefits of AED 2.3 billion over ten years. Sheikh Hamdan was also informed about initiatives for cycling infrastructure and smart transport systems aimed at promoting sustainable urban mobility. RTA's focus on training Emirati talent in advanced technologies ensures a skilled workforce ready to meet future transportation challenges.
