SEDD hosts discussion on future of statistics in age of AI

The session discussed the role of artificial intelligence in shaping statistical data and the importance of leveraging technological innovations for more accurate and effective data analysis and development. Discussions centered on how to utilize artificial intelligence data to support decision-making processes and achieve sustainable development.

During the session, emphasis was placed on the importance of artificial intelligence in improving traditional statistical tools and transforming them into tools capable of handling large volumes of complex data. Challenges related to integrating these technologies within the statistical field were also addressed, along with ways to foster collaboration between academic, governmental, and private institutions to develop innovative strategies.

This session is part of Sharjah's efforts to enhance the role of technology and artificial intelligence across various sectors, thereby contributing to the economic and social development of the emirate and placing it at the forefront of cities that rely on modern technology for future decision-making.

Noura bin Sandal, Deputy Director of the Planning and Economic Studies Department at the Sharjah Economic Development Department, stated that the organization of this workshop stems from the department's awareness of the significance of statistics and indicators in future planning and achieving sustainable development goals. This requires statistical systems that are capable of growth and updating, as well as training and research in statistical methodologies and knowledge management. The content of the workshop serves as a means to enhance and develop the scientific and research capabilities of researchers.

She also noted that the workshop reaffirms the department's efforts to document and enhance collaborative work with partners across various fields to improve data issuance, unify concepts, and support principles of disclosure and transparency. Additionally, it aims to raise awareness of statistical methodologies and practices in line with international recommendations and standards, as well as the statistical criteria followed in preparing statistics in the age of artificial intelligence.

At the conclusion of the session, participants emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation among various local entities to harness the capabilities of artificial intelligence in statistical fields, contributing to the realization of Sharjah’s developmental visions and addressing the changing needs of the community.
