Sharjah24 - WAM: Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, and Jeremiah Manele, Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, today inaugurated the Solomon Islands Embassy in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of embassy members and a number of business leaders.
Dr. Al Zeyoudi and Prime Minister Manele unveiled the plaque of the new embassy, officially marking the opening of the Solomon Islands' diplomatic mission in the capital, Abu Dhabi. The event was attended by Cornelius Walegerea, Ambassador of the Solomon Islands to the UAE, along with members of the foreign diplomatic corps of the Soloman Islands.
Al Zeyoudi emphasised that the inauguration of the new embassy underscores the two nations' commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing their cooperation in various fields. He noted that it marks an important milestone in the flourishing relations between the two countries.
He further stated that since diplomatic relations were established between the UAE and the Solomon Islands in 2010, the two countries have increasingly shared fruitful trade and investment ties. In 2023, non-oil bilateral trade saw a 71 percent increase compared to the previous year, reaching US$3 million. The Solomon Islands' exports to the UAE more than quadrupled during the same period, contributing to the growth of local industries such as fishing and forestry.
Al Zeyoudi also highlighted the role of the UAE-Pacific Partnership Fund in developing a solar power plant in the Solomon Islands, built and operated by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar).
Prime Minister Manele said that the inauguration would further strengthen bilateral ties, commending the ongoing cooperation between the Solomon Islands and the UAE across various sectors. He affirmed his country's commitment to deepening cooperation for the benefit of both nations.
