Sharjah24: Dr. Buthaina Ben Balila, Head of the Department of Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health at the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), announced the launch of the National Prediabetes and Diabetes Screening campaign, in cooperation with all health authorities in the country, with an aim to beat the disease.
Dr. Buthaina revealed that the national campaign for early diabetes detection was started today in the Ministry, with the presence of His Excellency Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Public Health Sector, in collaboration with all health authorities in the country, including: Dubai Health Authority; Abu Dhabi Department of Health; Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre; Emirates Health Services; Merck Co., as well as Manzil Company and Ibnsina.
She also told “Sharjah24” that participants will be observed by monitoring their cumulative blood sugar levels and will be followed up on after three and six months, with the test lasting a year. However, this program was permitted within government guidelines, and the initial results will be 5,000 tests completed within 100 days, with 80% of diagnosed persons will be referred to clinics for follow- ups .
Dr. Buthaina pointed out that indicators in the country show that the rate of diabetes in the country is 11.8 and the rate of pre-diabetes is 11.7. She stressed that early detection of pre-diabetes can be of great benefit to patients, contributing to reduce diabetes incidence.
