Sharjah 24: With the aim of educating the local community across diverse fields of space science and astronomy, enriching their skills and knowledge, the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology (SAASST) at the University of Sharjah (UOS), organised a lecture on “Canopus”, presented by Prof. Mashhoor Al-Wardat, Professor of Astrophysics, UOS , and Director of Academic Affairs, SAASST, in the presence of a number of employees of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage and space enthusiasts.
The lecture discussed the appearance of the Suhail star, known as 'Canopus,' which signals a significant change in weather and climate. The lecture also addressed the names of the stars, their celestial movement, the most prominent constellations, and how stars assist in determining the best times for stargazing and cultivation, along with the dates of the four seasons, the periods of hot and cold weather, and directions.

On the sidelines of the lecture, attendees had the opportunity to explore the astronomy space stations in the scientific exhibitions, allowing them to discover the universe through simple instruments and exhibits. Additionally, they watched a special show about the celestial bodies in Sharjah Planetarium where the show focused on the 13-zodiac constellations near the ecliptic where the Sun move apparently on it and the Moon, and the planets move around it.
