From the basics that are empowering beginners to get off to a stronger start to intermediate-level learnings across genres of street, portraiture, fine art and landscape photography, among others, and expert-level lessons in film shooting and visual storytelling through advertising and other professions that workshop attendees from the UAE and beyond are taking their craft and creativity to the next level at Xposure 2023.
Alongside these hands-on practical lessons that are honing participants' technical prowess, the learning continues at the festival’s Focus Group discussions and Portfolio Reviews, which have brought the industry’s leading names here in Sharjah to impart valuable theoretical lessons that are deepening the understanding of participants and broadening their creative horizons.
The focus group sessions were all sold out before the festival’s launch. The talks ranged from navigating high-risk zones to using photography as a medium of healing, and shared expert insights on creating long term nature projects as well as how to protect one’s photo archives.
The portfolio reviews that have taken place so far have featured the likes of Maria Mann, photojournalism consultant and former photo editor-in-chief at AFP; Muhammed Muheisen; National Geographic Photographer and Two-Time Pulitzer Prize Winner; Kathy Moran, International League of Conservation Photographers; Aidan Sullivan, CEO and Founder, Verbatim – Visual Global Storytelling, and others.
These industry leaders have been approached by dozens of visitors who have had their photography reviewed by them and received personalised feedback and guidance on how to make their work stand out and leave a lasting impact on the world through their craft.
