Sharjah24: Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, issued Administrative Decision No. (1) of 2023 regarding restructuring the University of Sharjah Board of Trustees.
The decision stipulated that the Board of Trustees of the University of Sharjah, in its new session, be formed under the chairmanship of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, and the membership of:
1. Dr. Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah and President of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy and Space Sciences and Technology.
2. Dr. Obaid bin Ali bin Butti Al Muhairi, Former Executive Dean for Arabic and Emirati Studies, Higher Colleges of Technology.
3. Mohammed Abdullah, CEO of Sharjah Islamic Bank.
4. Eng. Omar Khalfan bin Huraimel Al Shamsi, Head of Sharjah Directorate Human Resources and Member of Sharjah Executive Council.
5. Dr. Muhadithah Al Hashimi, Chairman of Sharjah Private Education Authority.
6. Afaf Ibrahim Al Marri, Head of the Sharjah Social Services Department and Member of Sharjah Executive Council.
7. Dr. Mansour Mohammed bin Nassar, Legal Adviser, Chairman of Sharjah Government Legal Department, and Member of Sharjah Executive Council.
8. Saeed Sultan Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority.
9. Dr. Khawla Abdul Rahman Al Mulla, Chairperson of the Family Affairs Authority, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, and Member of Sharjah Executive Council.
10. Dr. Jacques Frémont, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ottawa - Canada.
11. Dr. Harris Pastides, Former President of the University of South Carolina - USA.
12. Dr. Alexander Kuleshov, President of Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) - Russia.
13. Dr. Kamal Yousef Al Toumi, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Co-Director of Centre for Clean Water and Clean Energy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) - USA.
14. Dr. Paul O'Brien, Dean of Health Sciences Centre and Vice President of McMaster University, Canada.
15. Dr. Martin Barstow, Professor of Astrophysics & Space Science, Head of Physics & Astronomy (2005-09), Pro-Vice Chancellor/Head of Science & Engineering (2009-16), and Pro-Vice Chancellor/Director of the Leicester Institute of Space & Earth Observation (2016-19) at the University of Leicester - UK.
The membership term in the board shall be three years, renewable for a similar period, and those whose membership has expired may be re-appointed. This decision shall be effective from the date of its issuance and shall be published in the Official Gazette.
