Sharjah24: Mexican illustrators and visual artists who have participated in the Sharjah Children's Book Illustration Exhibition between 2017 and 2021 came together at the 36th Guadalajara International Book Fair to discuss their experience and awards received at the exhibition, organised annually on the sidelines of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival.
Eminent speakers at a panel discussion hosted as part of Sharjah’s Guest of Honour programme at the book fair in Guadalajara, included Mohammed Mahdi, a member of the Preparatory Committee for the Sharjah Children's Book Illustration Exhibition, Mexican artist and academic Alex Herreras, and Esmeralda Rios, award winner of the Sharjah Children's Books Illustration Exhibition.

During the session, panel members shone light on the Sharjah Children's Book Illustration Exhibition which features the works of hundreds of the most remarkable talents in the field of visual arts each year, and highlighted its role as a platform for expertise and knowledge exchange. Since its debut edition, the event has brought together illustrators from around the world, including Mexico, to showcase their work and compete for its awards.

Speaking to a packed audience, the artists discussed Sharjah's leading efforts in bringing together regional and international illustrators and emphasised the importance of the exhibition as a platform to showcase their work and network with their peers from the UAE and around the world. The session also witnessed the distribution of a book containing all the works of Mexican illustrators who have participated in the past five editions of the Sharjah Children's Book Illustration Exhibition.

Mexican illustrators have received many awards at the Sharjah Children's Book Illustration Exhibition, including the top prize in its first edition, which went to illustrator Gabriel Pacheco. Several other illustrators have also received various other awards at subsequent editions of the exhibition.
