Sharjah24 - WAM: The UAE participated today in the 35th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Transport, that was held at the headquarters of the Arab Academy of Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport in Alexandria, Egypt.
Hassan Mohamed Juma Al Mansouri, Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Transport Affairs headed the UAE delegation in the event.
In his remarks to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Mansouri said that the transport sector is not only one of the most crucial elements of vital development in the world, but also one of the main factors affecting economic and social growth, as all economic sectors depend on the infrastructure of various transport systems, providing networks and linking them, facilitating procedures for the movement of goods and increasing trade exchange, which assists the economic development, and contributes to facilitating the movement of citizens to travel among Arab countries for all economic and commercial purposes.
Transport sector faces great challenges, which requires taking ambitious, thoughtful, practical and implementable decisions that contribute to achieving an effective role for countries and society in building sustainable development and meeting the growing social, economic and environmental requirements, while at the same time promoting and strengthening joint Arab action in this field to create an economic environment, he added.
Al Mansouri hailed the role played by member states of the Arab League to promote maritime and land transport.
He indicated the UAE's keenness on adopting ambitious initiatives that enable enhancing joint Arab action.
