Sharjah 24: On Sunday evening at the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), the Cultural and Media Office of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs hosted Dr. Hind Al-Mashmum and writer Aisha Al Jasmi for a symposium called "Short Story by Female Authors, Creative History." Salha Ghabish, the Director General of the office, and a large number of people interested in art short stories were also there.
Dr. Hind Al-Mashmum began by noting that the short story has been around for quite some time, having begun in the 1970s. Sheikha Al Nakhi's collection, "We All Love the Sea" which was published in 1970, though Al-Nakhi may have written short stories before then. In 1986, the Emirates Writers Union put out the first book of short stories written by Emirati women.
