Sharjah24 – AFP: During a press conference organised with representatives of the federal states, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announces that Berlin plans to cap energy prices from the beginning of 2023. The move is the cornerstone of a massive 200-billion-euro ($198-billion) package to ease inflationary pressure on households and businesses.
"It's important for all of us to find ways to relieve the burden on our families, elderly and the young" says Scholz, adding that the cap on gas prices "is more than what was paid in the past, but it is much less than what some have been offered now as a gas contract."
Commenting on this, Olaf Scholz, German Chancellor stated, “ We have also put a cap here, I have to correct myself, on the gas prices the cap is 12 cents, on electricity prices it is 40 cents."
The German Chancellor added, "That's why it's important for all of us to find ways to relieve the burden on our families, the elderly and the young, on social institutions such as hospitals, on small and large businesses, and on large industrial companies so that we can get through these times together."
Concluding his statement, Olaf Scholz pointed out, " That is more than what was paid in the past, but it is much less than what some have been offered now as a gas contract, with a bill 4 to 5 times more expensive and all the increases that come with it."
