Sharjah 24: His Excellency Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), received and welcomed HE Jean-Philippe Linteau, the Consul General of Canada to Dubai on the second day of the 41st Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF).
During a brief discussion, the two sides echoed the significance of increased cross-cultural communication and the importance of building a national culture of unity and solidarity between Sharjah and cities in Canada, especially Montreal and Toronto. They also stressed on the role of books to instill passion for knowledge and curiosity among the younger generations.
The SBA Chairman said: "With a multiplicity of cultures and languages, Canada boasts a rich heritage and cultural legacy. At the annual SIBF, publishers from all countries of the world can build strong relationships and support multiculturalism and enhance the role of writers in enriching and building human capacities.
The Canadian Consul General said: "We look forward to strengthening relations between Sharjah and cities in Canada to introduce the Arab reader to Canadian literature and culture and for readers in Canada to get to know Arab culture closely and appreciate its diversity and abundance."
He added: "The annual SIBF provides a unique opportunity to build cultural bridges between Canada and the Arab world while appreciating cultural diversity, promoting social inclusion and eliminating all forms of discrimination.”
