Sharjah 24 – WAM: His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, received the participants of a United Nations (UN) training programme for Arab municipalities and cities, organised by the Dibba Al Fujairah Municipality, under the theme, “Urban Resilience and Natural Disaster Risk Reduction.”
Sheikh Hamad welcomed the participants and wished them success in achieving the programme’s objectives.

During the meeting, Sheikh Hamad was briefed about the details of the programme, which was held on 1st and 2nd November in Dibba Al Fujairah, in cooperation with the Arab Towns Organisation, the United Nations Regional Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) for the Middle East and West Asia, the United Cities and Local Governments, and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme.

The meeting also addressed the pillars of the programme to raise the awareness of municipalities of disaster management and improve their capacities to face disasters in the Middle East and West Asia.

The participants thanked Sheikh Hamad for his warm welcome and support for projects and initiatives to promote the exchange of international expertise.

The meeting was also attended by Mohammed Saeed Al Dhanhani, Director of the Emiri Court of Fujairah; Ahmed Al Sabeeh, Secretary-General of the Arab Towns Organisation; Mohammed Duman, Secretary-General of the UNDRR for the Middle East and West Asia, and several mayors and disaster management officials from Arab countries.
