Sharjah 24 – WAM: Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), received Kim Jin-pyo, Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea, and his delegation currently visiting the UAE, at the FNC’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
During the meeting, the two sides highlighted the importance of strengthening their parliamentary relations, in line with the growing relations between the UAE and South Korea supported by their leadership.
They also discussed the friendship and cooperation between their parliaments, ways of encouraging further coordination and consultation, and exchanging views on matters of mutual concern. They highlighted the crucial role of their legislative institutions in reinforcing the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting also addressed the latest regional and international developments, the efforts to address terrorism and extremism, the importance of not interfering in the internal affairs of countries, solving conflicts through diplomatic means, and achieving security and stability in the region.
The two sides then discussed the humanitarian and developmental efforts of the UAE and its significant progress in the areas of innovation, artificial intelligence, space and women’s and youth empowerment, noting the similar vision and stance between the two countries and their economic and political approach.
Ghobash said that the relations between the UAE and South Korea are historic, deep-rooted, strategic and based on mutual understanding and respect, affirming their keenness to advance their overall cooperation.
He then highlighted the FNC’s keenness to enhance the bilateral ties between the two countries in all areas, noting the signing of a strategic partnership agreement in 2009. He added that the UAE is the leading trading partner of South Korea in the Middle East and North Africa region.
Kim thanked Ghobash on behalf of the South Korean National Assembly and his delegation for the UAE’s invitation and hospitality, stressing the importance of the visit to enhance cooperation.
