Sharjah24 – Reuters: The new-born twin panda cubs made their first public appearance on Saturday, the first day of the week-long National Day holiday, at the Chongqing Zoo in southwest China, attracting flocks of visitors to meet and adore their cuteness.
The twins' mother, Ershun, once lived in Canada's Toronto Zoo and Calgary Zoo as a goodwill envoy between March 2013 and November 2020. She mated naturally with a male panda at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda in the neighboring province of Sichuan in March.
Ershun gave birth to the twin cubs in late July at the Chongqing Zoo, which weighed 132 grams and 91 grams, respectively, when they were born.
"Our returnee panda Ershun gave birth to the twin brother and sister on July 22 this year. Currently, the elder brother weighs 4,352 grams and the younger sister weighs 3,604 grams. They are in good condition at present," said Yin Yanqiang, technical director of the panda house of the Chongqing Zoo.
During the seven-day holiday, the pair of giant panda cubs will be on display every day in the nursery of the panda house of the Chongqing Zoo from 10:00 to 11:00 in the morning and from 14:30 to 15:30 in the afternoon.
A total of 21 pandas currently live in the Chongqing Zoo, which began breeding giant pandas in the 1960s.
