Sharjah 24 – KUNA: The World Food Programme (WFP) is intensifying efforts to relieve millions of people affected with the wide-scale floods afflicting much of Pakistan, it declared on Wednesday.
WFP needs an additional sum of USD 34 million to fund its humanitarian operations in Pakistan, it said in a statement, affirming that 33 million people have been harmed by seasonal torrential rain and floods.

The WFP has already secured aid for many people affected with the flash floods, however it needs an additional allocation of USD 34 million to expand the operations.

Pakistan, since middle of June, has been witnessing heavy rain, unseen since 30 years ago.

The WFP said more than 1,000 people have perished and hundreds others have been injured and one million houses have been damaged or demolished with the raging waters.
