Sharjah24 – Reuters: Amazon's ambitious show 'Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power', reportedly the most expensive TV show ever, had its official launch at Culver Studios on Monday (August 15).
The series takes place 4,000 years before the events in the blockbuster movie adaptations of writer J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved books. The time period is known as the Second Age.

Amazon reportedly bought the rights to the appendices of Tolkein for $250 million.

They feature histories about Middle Earth as well as detailed family trees.

Luckily the cast and crew were all passionate Tolkein fans.

The cast weren't just expected to learn about Tolkein lore, they were also put through their paces in stunt camps, wire work, martial arts and were also forced to enlist in "scale academy".

Amazon spent about $465 million filming the first season of the show, according to government officials in New Zealand, where the series was filmed. The company is expecting to make five seasons of the show, making it one of the most expensive TV series ever.

When asked how the production's expense manifested itself on set, Morfydd Clark, who plays immortal elf Galadriel, said "It comes across as being part of the most enormous gang because it meant we had the most huge crew with the most incredible artists and a huge pan of personalities and skills."

Tolkein's tales of Middle-Earth, 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' have been extremely popular books, and subsequently films by Peter Jackson.

'Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' starts streaming on Amazon on September 2.
