Sharjah24 – Reuters: Marilyn Monroe’s estate has praised the casting of Ana De Armas as the Hollywood icon in Netflix’s forthcoming Blonde.
De Armas’s portrayal of Monroe has been criticized due to the Spanish-Cuban actor’s accent in the recently released trailer.
People online described the actress’s accent as “very heavy” and claimed, “it’s taking her out of character for me.”
However, in a statement to Variety, the Monroe estate has come out in support of De Armas. "Based on the trailer alone, it looks like Ana was a great casting choice as she captures Marilyn’s glamour, humanity and vulnerability," Marc Rosen, president of entertainment at Authentic Brands Group.
De Armas previously said it took her nine months to learn how to speak like Monroe and called the process a “big torture.”
