Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said in a statement on Monday that the committee includes Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Qatar, Tunisia and Algeria, in addition to the Arab League Secretary-General.
He stated, "Israel's measures to change the status quo on the Mount are a dangerous escalation." He added that Jordanian king Abdullah II stresses the need for Israel to respect the historical and legal status quo" at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
"The king directs the government to continue regional and international efforts to stop Israeli escalation and lobby for an international position that exerts pressure on Israel", Safadi stressed.
He noted, "Israel bears full responsibility for the consequences of the current escalation that is thwarting efforts invested to bring about calm." Jordan, which serves as custodian of the AlAqsa Mosque, has specifically condemned Israeli authorities for letting Jewish worshipers on the site.
