Over 2,000 sheep march down Paris' Champs Elysees

March 07, 2022 / 9:12 AM
Sharjah24 – Reuters: A herd of 2,022 sheep marched down Paris' famous Champs Elysees Avenue on Sunday, to mark the end of the International Agriculture Fair taking place in the capital.
Herders and 350 artists from the southern Bearn region guided the cattle, along with cows and donkeys, and performed traditional dances, as crowds of Parisians looked on.

"We will try to make the Parisians happy with our parade, for them to see what goes on 700 or 800 kilometres away from here," said breeder Luc Martin.

The event was also meant as a celebration of the traditional practice of transhumance, the moving of cattle to their summer pastures, that takes place every year in the Pyrenean region.

The Parisian herd walked for one kilometre, lead by a performer dressed as former French king Henry IV, who came from the Bearn region.
